Digital Marketing in the Game Industry

This week i learnt about the importance of marketing in the games industry, an concept which i once barely considered has reviled itself as perhaps the most important aspect of the whole game making process. In an industry where everyone and their pets are making games, marketing is the metaphorical battleground in which they must prove themselves and stand out, lest they fall into the void of forgotten games on steam or the play store. The main key was the idea that "it informs... It sustains... It Sells..."(Wakefield, 2019)) an idea which makes sense while also explaining its importance.

Nobody is going to play a game they haven't header of, or care about the developer if they don't know them, so marketing can inform people not only about your product, but yourself as well, building up a personal image which can help sell your game as much as any advertising could.

Having a presence and awareness is good, but if you can't sustain it then you risk falling of the side of the earth. Effective Marketing can help by keeping yourself and your game in the spotlight, keeping it in peoples minds and keep a healthy relationship with the people interested in you or your game.

Lastly, it sells. Not hard to understand why this is useful.

Marketing can help you insure that your game wont end up not being noticed, as well as creating a good image for yourself, giving you a budget to work with and perhaps even motivation at the sight of people interested in your game.
